This communication is being sent to all past and present members of the Forest Band Society to advise of changes that have occurred to the way the society will run.
We would like to invite you all to become a society member in 2007, and to participate as much or as little as you are able, fitting in with your other commitments.
How the Forest Band Society will operate in 2007
As indicated in the notice of the AGM in January, an agenda item was a proposal to change the structure of the society. The result of the vote was in favour, and the Frenchs Forest Concert Band has moved to ‘season’ rehearsals for specific performances, rather than weekly rehearsal.
Dates for your diary
With the year quickly speeding past, we want to give you as much notice as possible of performance dates. Below is an indication of what we have planned - more details will come as we confirm details.
We understand it’s likely you will not be able to attend all events, and would therefore appreciate knowing in advance attendance numbers for planning purposes. A deadline will be set for each performance to advise of your availability.
‘Warm up’ gig – Sunday 27th May
The aim of this gig is to give members the opportunity for a play in the first half of the year. We are aiming for a gig at the refurbished Manly Corso on a Sunday morning.
Please put the following dates in your diary and we will advise once we have confirmation from Manly Corso.
Rehearsals: Tuesdays 15th & 22nd May, 7:30-9:30pm
Gig: Sunday 27th May, 10am.
Eisteddfod – July/August (date tba)
We have entered the McDonald's Performing Arts Challenge for 2007. The date is to be confirmed, however indication is somewhere between 1st & 15th of August. Please put a note in your diary for this time and we will let you know asap.
To have a minimum of 4 rehearsals, please also mark in your diary:
Tuesdays 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st July, 7:30-9:30pm
These may get pushed back slightly pending actual performance date. Again we will let you know asap.
Casual gig – Saturday 25th August
To give some variety to the eisteddfod rehearsals, we’ll also run through some ‘play-out’ pieces and organise a performance probably at Warringah Mall.
October spring picnic & play – 21st October
Many people at last year’s 30th expressed interest in a similar annual event. This day will be a more casual affair with BYO picnic and a few hours of playing. Details to come.
Christmas Carols
We are already booked for some Carols, please add the following to your diary (all are evening performances):
Saturday 8th December
Sunday 9th December
Thursday 20th December – Collaroy War Vets
Membership – due by 30th April
To meet insurance requirements and help cover costs, those interested in participating in 2007 are asked to complete a membership form and submit with payment of $30. Click for membership form.
Fundraising
As you know, there are a number of costs involved in running the society, eg insurance, room hire, competition entry fees etc.
Membership fees will not cover all costs so we are asking your assistance in a couple of fundraisers throughout the year.
We are currently taking orders for Entertainment Books. For those of you not familiar with this concept, its a book of discount vouchers for various types of dining plus other activities. For more details go to: http://www.entertainmentbook.com.au
Please send orders to andrewterrey@optusnet.com.au specifying the book type (eg Sydney, Sydney North, etc) by Sunday 21st April.
We look forward to seeing you in 2007, and thank you in anticipation for your support and involvement.
